Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911) - famous music composer and conductor. He worked as a conductor of the Bavarian Royal Court Orchestra in Munich at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Thomas Mann (1875 – 1955) - German writer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, known for his works such as "The Buddenbrooks" and "The Magic Mountain". He spent part of his life in Munich.

Louis II Bavarian (1845 - 1886) - King of Bavaria, known for his support of the arts. He had several important buildings built, including Neuschwanstein and Linderhof.

Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949) - German composer and conductor, one of the most important music creators of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. For over 40 years he worked as a conductor in Munich, where he was also born.

Werner Herzog (1942) - a famous German director and screenwriter who was born in Munich. His film work includes "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo".

Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) (1927 - 2022) - German theologian and former pope who was born in Bavaria and studied in Munich.

Marlene Dietrich (1901 – 1992) - legendary German actress and singer who spent part of her youth in Munich.

Lena Meyer-Landrut (1991) - German singer and 2010 Eurovision winner, born in Hanover, but since 2013 living in Munich.

Karl Valentin (1882 – 1948) - Bavarian comedian and actor, one of the biggest figures of the Bavarian cabaret. He was called "the German Charlie Chaplin". He influenced many other artists like Bertolt Brecht etc.

Franz von Stuck (1863 – 1928) - painter and sculptor born in Munich, representative of Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
